Soldier Summit is a mountain pass on US-6 in central Utah. Snow and blowing snow can change the road fast, so check it right before you go, not the night before.

Utah's traction rule (Utah Admin. Code R920-6): when UDOT or law enforcement put traction requirements in effect, vehicles over 12,000 lb GVWR need traction devices (chains, cables, socks or studs) on all drive tires, and only one tire in each dual set needs one.

UDOT says you may have to comply up to 24 hours before a storm. It announces traction requirements on road signs, message boards, the UDOT Traffic app and UDOT social media.

Which roads are on UDOT's chains-required map can change. Check UDOT's current map and its current traction restrictions instead of trusting an old post (this one included).

Before you leave: UDOT Traffic (mountain passes, cameras, restrictions) and the NWS Salt Lake City forecast for the pass. Our page https://thetruckershub.com/roads/soldier-summit/ shows a cached copy with times, but the official page always wins.
